Thoma’s Original World Famous #16. Or is it Thomas’ Original World Famous #16. Or Thomas Burger Original World Famous #16. The restaurant can’t decide because there are signs proclaiming the space all three. Why is it #16? No clue. There are not 15 others. It’s nine tables outside beside a gas station in the evil Venice Whole Foods parking lot. Inside is a few tables and some old video arcade games.
This is cash only, cheap eats. Mostly heart attacks in a basket. Burgers, chili dogs, pastrami loaded baskets with tasty fries.
The Monster gets a fried chicken sandwich and fries. It’s a beautiful day so he sits outside to inhale the gas vapors from next door and peruse this ugly stretch of Lincoln Boulevard. There’s a paint store, a photo studio, a Swedish car center (for the three people who drive Volvo’s or Saab’s) and an Out of the Closet Thrift Store. Abbot Kinney this ain’t.
A few minutes later the food is delivered. The sandwich is fried. And chicken. It tastes exactly as one would expect which may be a good or bad thing depending on where you fall on the fast food scale. The fries fare better, going so far as being pretty good even with the seasoning salt dumped on them though they came straight out of a bag.
But chances are none of you are going to try Thoma’s/Thomas’/Thomas Burgers. With so many upscale burgers and the like to be had this isn’t perhaps destination eating.
Why go? You aren’t.
