REVIEW: FRENCH CORNER BISTRO

All of seven tables, French Corner Bistro is a quaint space of lime green and muted purple featuring a menu of French favorites where the strains of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel can be heard winging through the room.

Papa and Mama Monster swear by it despite the fact that the average age of the diners is altacocker city.  Welcome to Palm Beach.

The Monster decides on a Caesar salad, the mussels mariniere, French onion soup and a half duck rotisserie with orange sauce along with potatoes au gratin and ratatouille.  Merci!

The Caesar is nice.  Mama Monster loves Caesar salads and she loves it so there you go.  If Caesar is your thing have at it.

The mussels are everything you’d want.  Rich, meaty with a tremendously flavorful broth of garlic and white wine.  They are fantastic and reason alone to visit.  Some of the best mussels The Monster has had in years.

The French onion soup is forgotten.  A shame as The Monster is terribly excited by the prospect of it.  Nevermind, he’s ordered too much food as it is.

And onto the duck!  It is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.  The Monster can do without the orange sauce on the side (it’s nicely executed he just doesn’t need much to augment his bird).  The sides are fine but by this point eating is becoming a job moreso than anything so finishing them isn’t going to happen.

As the lights go down and the restaurant becomes a bit more romantic (and completely packed including Hall of Fame baseball player Rusty Staub who Papa Monster tells me is now a wine connoisseur) The Monster begins to contemplate dessert.  He has no room left but has that stopped him before?

So a homemade ice cream cake is the call, the recommendation of the waitress.  As this is a family affair (mother and daughter) they have taken turns caring for our table and been pleasant in a very French manner.  However, if you do not have reservations do not expect the pleasantries to be extended to your party.

Dessert proves a nice cap to a lovely meal and now The Monster will wheel himself out to the car and the Florida rain.

Why go?  You hate French onion soup.
