REVIEW: CHICKEN LADY CAFE

Friendliest restaurant in LA.  Chicken Lady Cafe.  First impressions go a long way and this tiny bundle of joy in a nondescript strip mall across from the SLS Hotel wins big.

From the hostess to the waitress The Monster feels like he’s with old friends.  All the inside tables are jammed so it’s one of the two outside tables today.  Given they are in the shade and it’s a windy day a tad cold but you can’t blame that on the Chicken Lady.

And herein comes the hard part.  This restaurant is famed for their chicken tenders and mac n cheese.  But the special today is chicken pot pie.  The Middle East will be resolved long before The Monster makes up his mind.

The waitress should be a crisis intervention counselor because she says get the tenders and mac now and take the pot pie home.  Not since Oslo has someone been so brilliant.

As for the food, it’s the best school lunch you have ever had.  It’s tremendously awesome.  When the Chicken Lady herself comes out to say hello The Monster’s day is made.  When she offers up free dessert because they’ve run out of cornbread (The Monster never would have known he is supposed to have it) his heart melts.

And then Casey comes to say hello and the greatest part is it’s the pride they take in their homestyle food that keeps smiles on their faces and brings happiness to their customers.

And then the cheese pie dessert with ice cream.  Lord have mercy.  The Monster is lucky this spot is nowhere near him and closed on weekends or his cardiologist would have nightmares.

Then Eva comes and says hello.  Chicken Lady Cafe is seriously the greatest.

Why go?  Yesterday was Sloppy Joe Monday.

I’ve always wondered what that place is. Now I know.
