FOOD NEWS AND NOTES

1) The Original Farmers Market in Los Angeles is turning 78!  Help them celebrate with a night of outstanding food courtesy of the Market’s 60 grocers and restaurants.

On Tuesday, July 17th from 5-9 pm visitors can sample food from several dozen restaurants and enjoy special pricing at Market shops throughout the day.  Add some music and drinks and it’s a party not to be missed.  Taste of Farmers Market is a strolling tour of the international cuisines that visitors can find anytime they come to the Market.  Merchants will be offering samples of their best; so much that tasting everything could prove a bit challenging.  To see what Taste of Farmers Market is all about please click here: http://www.youtube.com/user/FarmersMarketLA

Tickets are $35.00 per person until July 9th and include unlimited food sampling, two beverage tickets, live entertainment, and free parking the day of the event.  Starting July 10th, ticket price will increase to $40.00. Purchase your tickets prior to July 3rd and you will be entered into a drawing for a $100.00 Farmers Market Gift Certificate.

2) Adding to Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza’s enhanced line-up of retailers, Southern Girl Desserts has opened a new restaurant and bakery at the mall. The former Season 6 “Cupcake Wars” contestants are now serving the best of the South’s cakes, pies, cookies, pudding and cobblers. This Saturday, June 30 from 12pm to 4pm, they will host a grand opening celebration at the mall, featuring a cupcake eating contest and free samples.

3) Wirtshaus, Los Angeles German restaurant and beer garden, (www.facebook.com/WirtshausLA), will be participating in the first ever Summer dineLA Restaurant Week, July 16-27, 2012, as well as “The 31 Days of German Riesling”, which takes place throughout the entire month of July.

Wirtshaus’ dineLA Restaurant Week dinner menu will feature three courses at the Restaurant Week pricing of $35.00 per person (not including tax and tip). Guests who opt out of Wirtshaus’ Restaurant Week menu will still be able to enjoy Wirtshaus’ regular selection of more than 35 German beers, German wines and their other authentic German menu items. As part of “The 31 Days of German Riesling” promo, Wirtshaus will offer at least two German Rieslings at by-the-glass special pricing during the entire month of July. “The 31 Days of German Riesling” is a celebration of Germany’s most famous wine varietal, and is produced by the Wines of Germany organization. Wirtshaus is located at 345 N. La Brea Avenue. Wirtshaus is open daily for lunch and dinner, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM.  The restaurant also holds bi-weekly Thursday night “Around The World” ping-pong tournaments, which start at 8 PM.
