Can we start with the stupid name? Because it’s stupid. A restaurant name should not have a question mark. That makes The Monster nervous. ???
That being said, the make your own “wich” does work for The Monster. It’s an ultra-casual sandwich shop where you can, a la The Counter, pick your own poison. Want beef, chicken, ham or pork, seafood or turkey. Start there. Pick your bread. Pick a bowl. Shower it with cheese. Smother it with sauces. Veggies, oils and spices, do it up.
Get some chips, a hand-dipped ice cream shake, a little dessert. Ultimately this is Subway for those of us who don’t want to walk in that door.
The Monster’s call is buffalo chicken on wheat with caramelized onion, banana peppers toasted on wheat bread. It tastes good. It’s cheap enough that good is really what you’re looking for.
With friendly, fast counter service, some jamming music and a cutesy yellow flecked ambiance, this isn’t destination dining but a place to hop in and out of when Mendocino is a madhouse and Subway won’t do.
Why go? Your life is riddled with questions.
