The Monster wants to love Locanda Positano. Intimate space. Engaging service. Fine wine. Tasty food.
And yet he finds that he merely likes it.
And the reason is charging $34 for a small portion of branzino accompanied by mash potatoes and spinach just doesn’t fly. And it’s not even like they bring out the branzino and then fillet it. There is no theater here. Instead the meager portion is brought out on the plate. It is not a $34 entrée. It did have bones however. Maybe you pay extra for that.
So despite delicious squash blossoms to start and a lovely seafood risotto with shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari and baby octopus The Monster leaves feeling a little bit empty.
He wouldn’t mind that the tables are so close that you could easily reach your fork over and snag a bite of the thin sliced raw artichokes at the table next to you or sample a little of the linguine with clams if he didn’t feel like he’d he had eaten a $22 portion of branzino.
Maybe even a $24 portion of branzino, what with the mash potatoes and spinach and of course the lemon wedge.
But not $34 worth.
So The Monster passes on dessert and goes home and has a slice of leftover pizza. He’ll of course come back to Locanda Positano but he’ll know better next time and order accordingly.
Why go? You hate branzino.
