Pork Belly’s Sandwich Shop is straight up delicious.
This newcomer on Abbot Kinney takes over from Glencrest BBQ (the great mural on the outside wall is intact) serving a selection of sandwiches, tots, fried pickles and the like.
The Monster orders up the chicken parm sandwich and damn if it isn’t awesome. The Beast (The Monster’s compatriot on this trip) gets the PBLT (thick sliced pork belly, lettuce, tomato and mayo on toasted sourdough) and from his moans of delight it too is a huge win.
Yep, tater tots and fried pickles also make the grade. Super tasty.
You might sample the Abbot Kinney – mom’s secret recipe – chorizo sloppy Joes with potatoes, onions and green peppers topped with a fried egg on a brioche roll. Or maybe the Chopped Melt is more your speed – classic chopped brisket combined with melted cheese and pressed served on sourdough bread.
With friendly, fast service (and a free mini chocolate chip cookie with each sandwich) what’s not to like?
Perhaps the only complaint is there really isn’t anywhere to eat save one high table outside (damn, it is hot) and a teeny-tiny counter along the side wall.
That minor issue aside, Pork Belly’s is a great new addition to trendy Abbot Kinney.
Why go? This already was the coolest street in America, now it’s just that much cooler.
