Coming back from a day of hiking (with no water and after skipping breakfast and dinner the night before) to Hanakapi’ai, a beach only accessible via rugged trail or boat, The Monster is very nearly starved and ready to have a hose permanently attached to his mouth to guzzle water for the rest of his life.
With beautiful views of the ocean (but sadly no outdoor seating), this slightly off the beaten path restaurant is done up in pseudo-med meets Hawaiian style. Meaning it is weirdly appointed and Haw-Med is a look you do not want to replicate in your home, leave it at that.
A nice hike to get the appetite going…
Med in Hawaii? Why not?
You’re eating the food, not the atmosphere…
But that view is lovely…
Featuring a menu of classic favorites, The Monster skips all the delicious sounding but unhealthy fare for Ono wraps in lettuce with sides of baba ganoush and pesto hummus. Beach time will do this to a person.
Bypassing spanakopita, flat breads and chicken wraps is terribly hard but once the meal arrives proves the right choice because the fish is marvelous and fresh and the accompanying dips lovely as well.
While an odd kick off meal, Mediterranean Gourmet ends up being a very nice start to the vacation.
Why go? Happy accidents.
