REVIEW: BOBBIE’S

When in Hawaii you owe it to yourself to have one true island lunch plate.  A messy mass of fried goodness that is cheap, filling and altogether delicious.

Enter Bobbie’s in Hanapepe for what some say is the best of the bunch on Kauai.

This unassuming counter order is in the old Main Street portion of the tiny town, dotted with charming art galleries and less charming boarded up shops. It has a real nostalgic vibe, friendly service and huge portions so sharing is caring.

With a selection of plates to choose from (and the ability to mix and match) The Monster ends up with two pieces of fried Ono, two pieces of fried shrimp, spicy Korean chicken and fried saimon.

Ten minutes after ordering you will be knee deep in all sorts of fried loviness. The chicken is a real standout, crunchy and sweet, spicy and addictive.

Along with some lilikoi passion juice this is about as close as you’ll come to feeling like you live on the island. And that’s a good thing.

Why go?  You feel the island spirit.
