Unstoppable it is. The need for fried chicken. And so, like a lemming falling off the cliff The Monster always gives in. In this case, it’s off to Torrance and Flossie’s.
In a nondescript mini-mall in a nondescript part of town comes some very fine soul food cooking. You’ll wait in line, salivating at the sight off all that wonderfulness behind the glass. You’ll nearly keel over looking at the huge list of desserts. Your parched mouth will scream for some sweet tea.
And soon enough you’ll reach the front. You’ll order fried chicken (or perhaps baked chicken, oxtails, meat loaf, turkey drums or catfish amongst others depending on the day). Wowee, this is gonna be fun.
On to the sides and it is a veritable cornucopia of choices. Corn pudding? Black eyes peas? Red Beans? You’ll have a hard time whittling it down. But oh, you will. Because now your stomach is doing flips and kicks in anticipation of the all out assault of love it is about to encounter.
Dessert? Why of course! Cobblers and cakes and tarts and puddings all sounds ridiculously great. Is it possible to order them all? You’ll want to. You won’t mercifully.
And so the order for The Monster all told is fried chicken. Mac n’ cheese. Mustard greens. Candied yams. Corn bread. Sweet tea. Banana pudding.
The incredibly friendly staff will get it all ready for you, you’ll take a seat in the homey environs, and you’ll wait. And then soon enough the food will arrive. It is a huge order. It looks tremendous. There is no way you will finish. But you will try.
And as you eat you’ll feel the love that goes into every thing made at Flossie’s. And though a lemming you may be, a happy lemming you’ll be at that for the chicken hits all the notes, the yams are just about perfect, the mac is decadent and the dessert is the best banana pudding you’ve ever had.
Why go? You’re not afraid of heights.
